Manga Route

 

Route 1

The first route depicted in the manga ends more quickly than other depicted routes in the series. It follows the Novel Route closely until after the Mekakushi Dan leaves the amusement park, when it abruptly ends and Marry is forced to rewind the world.

08.15. -<5 Years

• Ayaka and Kenjirou die in a landslide, and the latter receives the Snake of Clearing Eyes.

Before 08.15. -2 Years

• The Snake of Clearing Eyes, acting towards Kenjirou's wish to see Ayaka again, makes a plan to bring all the snakes to the real world to create a new Medusa that can merge the Kagerou Daze and the real world together.
  • The Snake of Clearing Eyes begins its plans to kill Takane and Haruka to make them contact the Kagerou Daze.
• Ayano and Shintaro meet in middle school as classmates.
• Takane, Haruka and Kenjirou work together to create a videogame for the school festival.
• Takane and Haruka present their game "Headphone Actor" at their high school's culture festival.
  • Kano and Kido visit their classroom, though they do not introduce themselves. Kido faces Takane in the game and uses Concealing Eyes to hide the pig enemies.
  • Shintaro beats Takane at the game with a perfect score.
• Ayano befriends Takane and eventually introduces herself as Kenjirou's daughter and her future schoolmate.
  • Ayano eventually befriends Haruka too, and Shintaro befriends both Haruka and Takane. The four of them regularly spend time together.
• Haruka and Takane bond over their shared interest in videogames.
• Ayano learns of the Snake of Clearing Eyes and its plan to bring all the snakes from the Kagerou Daze to the real world and then kill all human snake owners to create a new Medusa. She begins to make her own plan to save her friends and family.
• Haruka's heart disease worsens, making him require hospitalization more often and for longer periods of time.
• Ayano and Shintaro enter high school.
• Takane starts having feelings for Haruka.

08.15. -2 Years

• Haruka, Takane and Ayano frequent summer vacation school.
• Haruka has a heart attack while Takane ignores him, making her feel guilty and unworthy of his company.
• Takane returns to the school to retrieve Haruka's things, where she meets Ayano and has a conversation with her regarding Shintaro and Haruka.
• Takane decides to confess her feelings for Haruka, only to lose consciousness (likely due to her narcolepsy) and be taken by the Snake of Clearing Eyes.
• The Snake of Clearing Eyes ensures Haruka's and Takane's deaths.
  • Takane receives the Snake of Opening Eyes; her body remains in Kenjirou's lab while her mind becomes Ene and enters the cyberspace.
  • Haruka's body receives the Snake of Awakening Eyes and becomes Konoha, while Haruka's mind remains in the Kagerou Daze.
• Ayano falls off her school's rooftop, receives the Snake of Favoring Eyes, and remains in the Kagerou Daze.

After 08.15 -2 Years

• Shintaro, having lost his friends Ayano, Haruka and Takane, drops out of school and becomes a shut-in.
• Kido, Seto, and Kano leave the Tateyama household and relocate to their own hideout.
• Marry leaves her cottage in the forest and joins the Mekakushi Dan.
• Momo debuts as an idol.
• Ene journeys through cyberspace. After about a year, she emails herself to Shintaro's computer and stays there without telling him her identity.

08.14.00 (Present Day)

• Shintaro and Ene banter, and as a result he spills soda on his keyboard, so he and Ene go out to buy a new one in the mall.
• Momo, after summer vacation classes and suffering lots of pressure due to her idol career, goes out to buy a salmon mascot charm, and her Drawing Eyes causes crowds to chase her. She eventually gets away from them and meets Kido, who takes her to the Mekakushi Dan hideout.
• At the hideout, Momo meets Kano and Marry and agrees to join them as a new member to learn how to train her eye abilities.
• Marry causes Momo's phone to break, so they all go to the mall while concealed by Kido's eye abilities. Momo sees Shintaro and slips that he is her brother.
• Terrorists attack the mall and take hostages, including Shintaro and Kano, though Kano is there by Kido's orders and uses Deceiving Eyes to only appear bound.
• Kido uses Concealing Eyes to hide herself, Marry, and Momo. Momo comes up with a plan to take down the terrorists using Shintaro, Ene, her Drawing Eyes, and Marry's Locking Eyes.
• Shintaro comes up with a similar plan with him and Ene and tells Kano that it will work with 100% confidence.
• Momo uses Drawing Eyes to determine where everyone's attention is and draws their attention to shelves that she and the rest of the Mekakushi Dan push over.
• Shintaro connects Ene to a computer so she can hack the system and open the security system's shutters.
  • Shintaro gets grazed by a bullet, collapses, and is taken to the Mekakushi Dan hideout.
• Momo uses Drawing Eyes to make all terrorists and hostages stare at Marry, who freezes them with Locking Eyes before the police come in.
• Ene joins the Mekakushi Dan.

08.15.00

• The Snake of Clearing Eyes moves to Konoha's body, killing Kenjirou.
• Seto is told of the mall incident by a bird.
• Shintaro wakes up in the Mekakushi Dan hideout, meets Kido, Seto, Kano and Marry and is forced to join.
• The Mekakushi Dan goes to the amusement park. Shintaro is involved in several shenanigans involving rollercoasters, Marry and Kido, and finds the overall experience unpleasant.
• The Snake of Clearing Eyes appears while the Mekakushi Dan is leaving the amusement park, being able to notice them despite Kido's Concealing Eyes. He kills Kano, Seto, Kido, Ene, and Shintaro (and probably Momo).
• Shintaro meets the Snake of Retaining Eyes, in her human visage as Ayano, during a dreamlike sequence.
  • Shintaro and Ayano, wearing their high school outfits, are studying together in an otherwise empty classroom.
  • Ayano gives Shintaro several problems for him to answer, including content he needs to 'review'. The scenario changes to a funeral with Ayano's photo displayed, and Ayano asks Shintaro what he thinks is the reason for her death.
  • Following that, Ayano tells Shintaro the story from Manga Route 2. She reveals her identity as Shintaro's eye ability and a snake that resides inside of him. Shintaro is now wearing his red jersey and black pants outfits, and he is crying over the story he was told.
  • The scenario changes back to the classroom. The Snake of Retaining Eyes changes to her white dress outift and removes her scarf, which she wraps around Shintaro's neck, and once she does so, his eyes turn red.
  • Shintaro reaches out for the Snake of Retaining Eyes, as she says that she will wait for the day when Shintaro remembers her and they are able to "get past this summer together".
• Marry uses Combining Eyes and the snakes of her slain friends to rewind the world.

Route 2

The second route depicted in the manga (sometimes unofficially called "Manga Route 2") is significantly different than most routes; several characters have different backstories and even eye abilities. This Route takes place before the Music and Novel Routes, expands on the Snake of Clearing Eyes's motivations and shows how Shintaro gains the Snake of Retaining Eyes.

xx.xx -5 to 15 Years

• Marry finds out about the snakes and their abilities from Azami's journal.
• Kido, Seto, and Kano meet at the orphanage and become friends.
• Kido, Seto, and Kano are taken in as foster children by Ayaka and Kenjirou Tateyama.
• Ayano forms the Mekakushi Dan to help Kido, Seto, and Kano feel better about their eye abilities.
• Kenjirou buys smartphones for his children.
• Guided by a hamster, Seto finds Marry in her cottage and takes her to the Tateyama household. Marry then joins the Mekakushi Dan.
  • Ayaka finds Azami's journal in Marry's backpack and concludes that Azami is real and that Marry is related to her.

Before 08.15 -2 Years

• Ayano enters her first year of high school.

• Haruka and Takane meet and become friends at a hospital.
  • Takane is discharged.
• Shintaro, who injured his arms and legs while slipping, is admitted into the hospital as Haruka's roommate.
  • Shintaro and Haruka quickly become friends before Shintaro is discharged. Takane, seeing their friendship, avoids visiting Haruka.

08.15. -2 Years

• Ayaka, Kenjirou, Ayano, and Marry decide to go to Marry's cottage to find more about her and Azami only to be caught in a landslide.
  • Kenjirou, Ayaka, and Ayano die, while Marry survives.
  • Only Ayano enters the Kagerou Daze.
    • Because of Ayano's wish to understand the origins of the Medusa and Marry, the Snake of Favoring Eyes shows her Azami's memories from "birth" to present on repeat in the Kagerou Daze.
    • She also learns of the Snake of Clearing Eyes's plan to create a new Medusa in the real world so that "the wish will never end".
  • Ayano returns from the Kagerou Daze, sees her parents' bodies, and blames Marry for their misfortune.
  • Ayano and Marry return to Kido, Kano, and Seto. Ayano tells them that Marry must be killed to save them, causing Kido, Seto, Kano, and Marry to leave.
• Haruka dies by his illness and enters the Kagerou Daze.
  • Like in other routes, he rejects the body that the Snake of Awakening Eyes made for him, causing him to stay in the Kagerou Daze while his body and the snake leave as Konoha.
• Takane learns of Haruka's death and commits suicide by jumping out his hospital room's window.
  • She enters the Kagerou Daze and gains the Snake of Opening Eyes.
  • Her body returns to the hospital in an injured and comatose state while her mind, as Ene, ends up lost in cyberspace.

After 08.15. -2 Years

• Shintaro learns about Haruka's death and becomes a shut-in.
  • He also heard about Takane's death, but he did not fully know her at the time.
• Ayano finds Konoha alone on a street and befriends him.
• Momo debuts as an idol.
• Ene journeys through cyberspace. After about a year, she emails herself to Shintaro, recognizes him, and decides to stay with him.

08.13.00

• Hibiya and Hiyori arrive to the city and stay at the Tateyama residence, where they meet Konoha.

08.14.00 (Present Day)

• Shintaro wakes up from a dream.
• Shintaro and Ene banter, and as a result he accidentally spills soda over his rabbit Tono's food.
• Shintaro goes outside with Ene and Momo to buy rabbit food for Tono.
• They meet Hibiya and Hiyori and go on a shopping trip with them.
• Konoha meets the Mekakushi Dan at the mall and stops the terrorists' plot with them.

08.15.00

• Several events happen on the 15th after midnight:
  • Hibiya and Hiyori get into an accident and enter the Kagerou Daze. Momo, Shintaro, and Ene were in a phone call with Hiyori right as she got hit.
  • Shintaro orders Ene to stay home and impersonate him as he and Momo go outside to search for Hibiya and Hiyori. Shintaro and Momo separate while searching.
  • After having successfully impersonated Shintaro to his mom, Ene browses the internet and learns about Konoha's existence and his involvement with the terrorist plot at the mall.
  • Konoha contacts Mekakushi Dan and asks them for help with finding Hibiya and Hiyori. Kido and Kano go with him to search for them.
  • Shintaro meets Kido, who buys him a soda and is helping Konoha search for Hibiya and Hiyori. Ene joins him.
  • Konoha and Kano find a passed out Hibiya on a street.
  • Momo meets Konoha and Kano, and runs away from them with Hibiya when he wakes up. Kano learns that she has Drawing Eyes and reports her to Kido.
  • Kido separates from Shintaro and Ene and meets with Konoha and Kano.
  • Momo and Hibiya (literally) run into Shintaro and Ene, and the four go to the Kisaragi household for the rest of the night.

• In the morning, Shintaro, Momo, and Ene drop Hibiya off at a police station and run into Kano.
  • Momo refuses Kano's offer to join the Mekakushi Dan. Kano shortly reports this to Kido, who relays this to Seto and Marry.
  • Shintaro splits from Momo and Ene, and the two groups search for Hiyori.
• Leaving the police station, Hibiya runs into Konoha and refuses to search for Hiyori with him.
• At the hideout, Kido and Konoha discuss the Mekakushi Dan's investigation of the "Kagerou Daze".
  • Afterwards, Konoha leaves the hideout by himself to search for Hiyori.
  • Kido soon after leaves the hideout by herself to search for Hiyori.
• Momo and Ene pass by Konoha, and Ene demands that Momo follows him.
• Hibiya meets Ayano, who shows him Azami's story with Favoring Eyes and explains the Snake of Clearing Eyes's plan to make a new Medusa.
• Shintaro finds Hibiya, meets Ayano for the first time, and learns of the existence of the eye abilities.
  • Ayano retells him Azami's story and the Snake of Clearing Eyes's plan.
• Kano leaves the Mekakushi Dan hideout to look for Kido, who has not reported back for some time, and runs into Konoha. Momo and Ene arrive shortly after.
• Konoha, Kano, Momo, and Ene discover Hiyori standing over Kido's corpse with blood on her hands. Hiyori immediately runs away.
  • At this point, Marry had absorbed the Snake of Concealing Eyes and collapsed in the Mekakushi Dan hideout. Seto then took her to her bed.
  • Momo refuses to believe that Hiyori killed Kido and passes out from exhaustion and distress.
  • Konoha leaves the scene to take Kido's corpse back to the Mekakushi Dan hideout.
• Kano has Ene contact Shintaro and starts carrying Momo home. He explains to Ene the story behind the Mekakushi Dan, the Kagerou Daze, and the Snake of Clearing Eyes on the way, making her realize that she too has a snake. He believes that the Snake of Clearing Eyes has possessed Hiyori.
• Shintaro, Hibiya, and Ayano meet with Kano, Ene, and Momo. Kano greets Ayano coldly, tells her that Kido is dead, and accuses her of intending to use Hibiya's Focusing Eyes to find the Mekakushi Dan, which she does not deny.
• Kano hands Momo and Ene to Shintaro and leaves with a voluntary Hibiya to find Hiyori.
• Shintaro, Ayano, Ene, and Momo go to Ayano's residence, where Momo can rest. Ayano tells Shintaro why her siblings distrust her.
• Momo wakes up and quickly leaves Ayano's residence with Ene to search for Hiyori. Shintaro leaves to chase after her.
• Kano gets separated from Hibiya, finds Hiyori, and realizes that she actually has the Snake of Focusing Eyes. He immediately calls Momo from Hiyori's cell phone to try to tell her.
• Momo finds Hibiya, who tells her he separated from Kano after an argument and that he needs her help. He has her follow him into an empty, abandoned building, where she drops and leaves her phone.
• Shintaro, who had heard Momo's voice from the building, finds Momo's phone. When he picks it up he sees Hiyori calling it and receives Kano's call, who tells him about Hiyori's eye identity.
• At the building's rooftop, Hibiya, possessed by the Snake of Clearing Eyes, pushes Momo off and kills her.
  • Shintaro briefly sees her falling from a window.
  • Marry absorbs the Snake of Drawing Eyes and remains unconscious.
• Ene transfers herself to Kano's phone and shakily confirms Momo's death to Kano and Hiyori. Konoha arrives at the scene, and Ene asks him if he is Haruka, but he is unable to recognize her.
• Ayano arrives at the builiding and sees the Snake of Clearing Eyes, in Hibiya's body, mocking Shintaro, who is kneeling in despair. She angrily confronts him and questions him.
  • The Snake of Clearing Eyes confirms that rewinding the world, which requires him to spread the despair that affects her family, extends his own lifespan.
• Konoha and Hiyori arrive at the scene, and the former is able to quickly restrain Hibiya's much weaker body.
• The Snake of Clearing Eyes manages to trick them by temporarily unpossessing Hibiya and jumps out of one of the building's windows, though Konoha saves him (and Hibiya) from dying.
• The Snake of Clearing Eyes kills Hibiya by making him fall in front of an oncoming truck, which explodes, and takes over Konoha's body before disappearing.

08.16.-08.17.00

• Momo and Hibiya's bodies are discovered at the scene of the truck accident, but according to the news two days later they are still unable to be identified.
• The Snake of Clearing Eyes uses Awakening Eyes to transform his body to prevent Hiyori from finding him with Focusing Eyes.
• Marry does not wake up.
• Hiyori finds the Mekakushi Dan hideout with Focusing Eyes and brings Ayano with her. She demands to join them to defeat the Snake of Clearing Eyes, and asks Kano to talk to Ayano. Kano and Seto decide to forgive her.
• Ayano tells Hiyori the story behind Azami, the Kagerou Daze, the Snake of Clearing Eyes, and her family.
• Shintaro hacks into street cameras to try to find the Snake of Clearing Eyes.

08.18.00

• Ene takes Shintaro to the hospital where her body is, says that her wish has been granted a long time ago, and dies, joining with Haruka in the Kagerou Daze.
  • Marry absorbs the Snake of Opening Eyes and wakes up. She forgives Ayano before passing out again.
• Shintaro spots Ayano entering the Mekakushi Dan hideout through hacked street camera footage.
• Shintaro goes to the Mekakushi Dan hideout and declares that he will be joining them to defeat the Snake of Clearing Eyes. Marry fully wakes up and welcomes him.
• The remaining members of the Mekakushi Dan leave the hideout to hide in Marry's cottage with the help of her use of Concealing Eyes.
• Marry uses Opening Eyes to project her spirit into the hideout, where she uses Drawing Eyes to attract the Snake of Clearing Eyes.
• The Snake of Clearing Eyes attacks the Mekakushi Dan hideout, and Marry projects her spirit over a fallen television with Opening Eyes to interrogate him.
  • The Snake of Clearing Eyes confirms his plans to "rewind" the world because he finds it unfit for Azami's original wish that created him.
  • Hiyori uses Focusing Eyes to watch over the scene so that she can now know the Snake of Clearing Eyes' new form and know when he is approaching.
• After their conversation is over, Marry uses Concealing Eyes and Drawing Eyes on the Snake of Clearing Eyes so that he can no longer sense or focus on anything but her.
• The Snake of Clearing Eyes manages to escape Marry's trap and follows the Mekakushi Dan to the mountains.
• The Mekakushi Dan attempts to attack and subdue the Snake of Clearing Eyes.
  • Marry attempts to use Combining Eyes to command the Snake of Clearing Eyes to stop attacking, but he remakes his body with Awakening Eyes to one that is immune to it.
  • Seto momentarily reunites with the hamster forest chief
  • Kano uses Deceiving Eyes to disguise himself as Marry and lead the Snake of Clearing Eyes to a trap set up by Ayano
  • Ayano uses Favoring Eyes to have the forest animals create a landslide above the Snake of Clearing Eyes
• Knowing that the Snake of Clearing Eyes had survived their attack, the Mekakushi Dan flees while Kano stays behind.
  • Having received Azami's memories from Ayano, Kano uses Deceiving Eyes to imitate Azami and stall the Snake of Clearing Eyes, who hesitates on killing his former master.
  • The Snake of Clearing Eyes eventually kills Kano when he reveals himself and provokes him.
• Marry absorbs the Snake of Deceiving Eyes and almost falls into despair, but Hiyori and Seto encourage her.
• Shintaro suggests trapping the Snake of Clearing Eyes into the Kagerou Daze.
• Marry, who now has five snakes (including the Snake of Combining Eyes), struggles to opens the Kagerou Daze. When she does, she briefly talks with Azami.
• When Marry returns from the Kagerou Daze, she sees that the Snake of Clearing Eyes had incapacitated Shintaro, Hiyori, and Ayano and had just killed Seto.
• Having absorbed the Snake of Stealing Eyes, Marry commands the Kagerou Daze to swallow the Snake of Clearing Eyes.
• Ayano asks Marry to use her frustration at their situation to turn her, Ayano, into the Snake of Retaining Eyes and to be given to Shintaro.
• Marry uses Combining Eyes and the snakes of her slain friends to rewind the world.
  • During the rewind, Shintaro and Ayano talk in what appears to be a white void. Shintaro asks if the world is rewinding and, when Ayano confirms, wonders if he will forget everything that happened in this Route. Ayano gives him a vague response and then shares Marry and her own's final messages to him.

Notable differences:

• Marry leaves her cottage after her first meeting with Seto and joins the Mekakushi Dan while Ayano and her parents are still alive.
• Ayano dies alongside her parents in the landslide.
  • Kenjirou and Ayaka somehow do not enter the Kagerou Daze when they die, and so the former does not gain a snake.
  • Ayano learns about the Snake of Clearing Eyes and his plans through the Snake of Favoring Eyes in the Kagerou Daze instead of by investigating Kenjirou.
  • Marry is also with the Tateyamas at the time but survives the incident without visiting the Kagerou Daze.
• Ayano does not commit suicide and is not stuck in the Kagerou Daze.
• Ayano never knew Shintaro and meets him for the first time when he runs into her and Hibiya.
• After her parents' death, the Mekakushi Dan leaves Ayano.
• Kano is never involved with the Snake of Clearing Eyes' plan and had learned about it through Ayano.
• Haruka, Takane, Ayano, and Shintaro don't go to school together.
  • Haruka never meets Ayano, who meets and befriends Konoha.
• Haruka, Takane, Hibiya, and Hiyori all die and enter the Kagerou Daze without the Snake of Clearing Eyes' influence.
• Hiyori gains the Snake of Focusing Eyes instead of Hibiya and is not stuck in the Kagerou Daze.
• Hibiya gains the Snake of Clearing Eyes.
• Momo refuses to join the Mekakushi Dan, and Ene and Hibiya never join as well.
  • Momo never meets Kido, Seto, and Marry; she sees Kido for the first time as a corpse and posthumously meets Marry during what is likely a dream.

Unknown Route 1

This route was briefly depicted in the manga after the events of Manga Route 2. It is strongly implied to be related to or actually Route XX.

• Shintaro in a black hoodie wakes up on August 15th at 12:32. With Retaining Eyes activated, he complains about the heat.

Unknown Route 2

This route was depicted in the extra manga chapter Additional Memory from the Snake of Retaining Eyes' point of view in Shintaro's head.

• Shintaro meets Ayano by returning her scarf to her during high school.
• An unknown amount of time later, Shintaro dies and is briefly reunited with the Snake of Retaining Eyes.
