Kagerou Project Timeline Guide

Kagerou Project is a Japanese mixed-media project by Vocaloid music producer Jin, featuring artists Sidu, Wannyanpoo, and Mahiro Satou. The series tells the story of the Mekakushi Dan, a group of teenagers with unusual powers called "Eye Abilities", and their struggle through numerous time loops. The story is set in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, Japan.[1][2][3][4]

Most songs were initially sung by the Vocaloid IA, while a few were sung by the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku, however, the third and most recent album, Mekakucity Reload, only features Miku. The project started on February 17, 2011 when the first song, Jinzou Enemy, was uploaded to Niconico, and in a 2016 interview with T., Jin stated that "Kagerou Project Will Never End".[5] The story features several different routes which are told through media such as the aforementioned songs, a light novel and manga series both titled Kagerou Daze (カゲロウデイズ Kagerō Deizu), and several anime.

A spin-off to the main Kagerou Project story set 3 years later titled Kagerou Daze No.9, with art done by Sayuki, was announced on June 8, 2019 and was originally set to screen January 2020, but has since been delayed.

Kagerou Project contains many Routes (ルート Rūto) that feature alternative plots, endings, and in some cases, beginnings. According to Jin[1], the story has an established backstory, which segues into the Music[2], then to the Manga[3], followed by the Novel[4][5][6], then Mekakucity Actors.[7][8] The second route depicted in the manga ("Manga Route 2") has been shown to have taken place before the Music Route. Kagerou Daze -in a day's- is set at an unclear point, though it is after Manga Route 2 due to Shintaro having his eye ability. With every reset, Marry rewinds the world back to its beginning, before Azami becomes aware of her own existence.[9][10]
